Upon the death of the father the family property was sold this day
Received her share of the inheritance while still living with her uncle and guardian Anton Barlage at Nadorst. She too, soon left to go to America.
She wrote home to Essen in 1862 as a widow with 4 children from this address. She owned the house and a cow and made do by washing and knitting for others. She received help from her brother Anton and uncle Theodor. There was
also help from the widowed brothers Fink. (?)
Aunt Adelheid sent her 18 & 35 Reichsthaler in 1862 and 25 in 1863.

Catherine & her brother Anton set up an annual allowance of 8 Reichsthaler which was to be paid out of their funds left in Germany to their step-mother in Essen.
