Birth: Jul. 10, 1838
Death: Jan. 12, 1916
Mrs. Johanna Dipper, a widely
known Decatur resident, who was
found lying on the floor of her home,
777 East Cantrell street, Tuesday
morning and taken to St. Mary's hospital,
died in the hospital at 1:35
Thursday afternoon from the effects
of a chronic malady and the last attack
of apoplexy. Her son was at her
bedside throughout the morning, having left
her for short periods only since
he discovered her serious illness Tuesday.
Mrs. Dipper was seventy-seven years
of age and has been a resident of
Decatur for the past fifty years, having
come here from Germany. She
had been suffering from dropsy for
the past few years during which time
she had lived alone in her old home on
the south side. She was alone in her
home when she suffered the last serious
attack of what was thought to be
apoplexy. She was discovered by her
son twenty-four hours after the attack,
during which time she lay on
the floor, unable to summon help and without fire and food.
Mrs. Dipper is survived by two sons,
John Dipper, who lives west of Decatur,
and Louis Dipper, of San Francisco.
She also leaves seven grandchildren
and three great grandchildren.
She was the widow of Frederick
Dipper who died about six years ago.
The body was removed to the Moran
chapel and funeral arrangements will be announced later.
