Crouse boarding at the same address. 1890 Census Special Schedule Soldiers, Sailors, Marines & Widows reads;Salix, Cambria, PA. 8-88; Jacob Crouse, Pvt., Co.G, 6th WVa, Cav. 16 Jan1861 to 12 Jul 1864, 3 Years, 5 Months, 26 Days service. 1900 Census Adams, Cambria, Pennsylvania page 4, lists ages as; Jacob68 years, Elizabeth 56 years, Ella J. 15 years, Lillian N. 12 yearsand brother Elias S. Crouse 73 years. all born in PA. OBITUARY: Johnstown Tribune NPO 18 OCT 1905 Jacob Crouse, aged 74 years, died at his home on a farm near Salixof Brights Disease and Dropsy. He had been ailing for 3 or 4 years. Mr.Crouse was a veteran of the Civil War and formerly lived in Johnstown,locating on a farm near Salix, a home ten years ago. He is survived by awife and 3 or 4 children. The remains will be brought to this city forinterment in Grandview Cemetery. OBITUARY: Johnstown Tribune NPO 26 OCT 1905 Jacob Crouse, who died at his late residence near Salix October16th., was a Civil War Veteran with a unusally eventful record. At theage of 23, he enlisted as a Private, and was assigned to Co. G , ThirdRegiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, under Capt. Rufus E. Fleming. Heparticipated in a number of battles, being wounded in the left thigh atthe Battle of McDowell in May 1862. The fights in which he took partwere: Franklin, Va., May 11, 1862; Cross Keys, June 8, 1 Forest Po,August 22, 1863; Second Battle of Bull Run, August 29 and 30, 1862;Rocky Gap, August 26, 1863; He was discharged at Wheeling W.VA., August12, 1864. Mr. Crouse was born in Millersville, Lancaster Co., PA. December26, 1831. He is survived by his wife and the following children; Emma,wife of John Burnheimer, of South Fork; Ella, wife of James Boyer, of theTenth Ward, Johnstown; Gertrude, wife of Joseph Schleppich, ofWilmerding; Jessie, wife of Harry Brewer, of South Fork, and Lillie athome. Mr. Crouse was a man greatly esteemed by his neighbors and was aprominent citizen of his community. He was buried in The Soldiers Circlein Grandview Cemetery. NOTES In the 1870 Census Jacob and Elizabeth Crouse are located in LarimerTwp., Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. In the 1880 Census they are located inJohnstown 4th Ward, Cambria Co., Pennsylvania. The Sandyvale Cemetary(located in Johnstown) and Johnstown Cambra Tribune records show threeburials; 1873, 1878 and 1892 for children of Jacob and Elizabeth Crouse.Therefore one can conclude that they moved from Larimer Twp., SomersetCounty to Johnstown in the 1870 - 1873 time period. From the Enlisted men of Company G, Sixth Regiment Volunteers Cavalry(WV) reads: Crouse, Jacob; Clarksburg West Virginia, age 23, served June 27, 1861to August 12, 1864, wheelwright, born Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania,wounded in thigh May 8, 1862 in action at McDowell, Virginia, musteredout expiration term of service. Jacob Crouse's birthdate from obit is 1831, from enlistment record is1861 -23= 1838, from census records 1832 and 1835
