Otto Koehler, Contractor, Killed by Rifle Bullet Relatives Discover Body in Home on Emerson Hill Otto F. Koehler, prominent Stapleton building contractor and vice-president of Richmond Memorial Hospital, Dreyfus Foundation, was found dead in a second floor bedroom of his home at 1 Emerson drive,m Emerson Hill, at about 10:30 o'clock last night. The body was discovered lying face down on a bed by Koehler's son-in-law, Daniel P. Lorey of 75 Cebra avenue, Tompkinsville. Assistant Medical Examiner Mendel Jacobi, who examined the body this morning, said the wound was self-inflicted. According to police, Koehler had dinner with a member of his family at about 7:30 o'clock last night, and was in good spirits. His wife went to Halloran General Hospital, Willowbrook, for the evening, and , when she returned home, was unable to enter the house. She got in touch with other members of the family , and they entered the house. The body was clothed when found. Dr. W. C. Hausheer fo 311 Westervelt avenue, New Brighton, was called, and later police were notified. The body remained at home. Born in Saxony, Germany, on May 30, 1883, Koehler was educated in public and technical schools there, and came to this country 40 years ago. He established residence in Stapleton, and attended Cooper Union, Manhattan. A short time later he established his building business. He was the son of Frederick and Agnes Koehler. In addition to serving as vice-president of the hospital board, he was an elder of the church council of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Stapleton, and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Staten Island. He was active in Red Cross work, Heading the committee for the Stapleton group's rest have. He also was a member of the board of directors of the Van Duzer Canteen, and an observer in the Aircraft Warning Service. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lorey and Mrs. Carl J. Sutter of 40 Howard avenue, Grymes Hill, wife of the Rev. Carl J. Sutter, assistant pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, and four grandchildren, Dorothea and Marguerite Lorey and Richard And Frederic Sutter. Funeral services will be arranged at the convenience of the family. | |

Otto F. Koehler Funeral servcies for Otto F. Koehler, Stapleton, building contractor and vice-president of Richmond Memorial Hospital, Dreyfus Foundation, are being held at 1 P.M. today at his home, 1 Emerson drive, Emerson Hill. The Rev. Frederic Sutter, D.D., pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Stapleton, will officiate. Burial will be in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp. Mr. Koehler, 60, was found dead in his home of a bullet wound Thursday night. Born in Saxony, Germany, Mr. Koehler came to this country and to the Island 40 years ago. He was an elder of the church councill of Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Staten Island. Active in Red Cross work, he was also a member for the board of directors of the Van Duzer Canteen and a member of the Aircraft Warning Service. Assistant Medical Examiner Mendel Jacobi, who yesterday stated he had examined the body early in the morning, did not perform the autopsy until yesterday afternoon, it was learned today. |
