Na de dood van zijn moeder werd hij groot gebracht in Strabeek bij zijn oom en tante, nl. Petrus Boesten en MariaCatharina Josepha Widdershoven. Hij werd later rentmeester van de familie Cornelie te Strabeek, daarna in 1868 opzichterte Luik. Zijn zwager Mathieu America nam in 1872 de Hal van Luik over van een zekere Anatole Dubois en wist deze totgrote bloei te brengen.
In 1876 associeerde Petrus J. Widdershoven zich met zijn zwager en begonnen zij de Hal America te Brussel. Zijn laatstejaren bracht hij door in Klimmen, een dorp dat hoog ligt; in die tijd werd gezegd dat hoog wonen gezond was. Hij is daarook overleden, vermoedelijk aan longtering.
