July 5, 1951: Mason City Clobe; Man Tries Suicide after an Arrest on Check Charge.
Osage, Iowa: Albert Mayer, past 60 years old, Stacyville cattle buyer wasin a Charles City hospital Thursday with injuries which Sherif Lewis Haberkorn said were self-inflicted with a razor following his arrest on a charge of uttering a worthless bank check. Injuries to his throat were described as not serious.
Mayer had been arrainged before Justice Charles Bailey and was unable to pay his fine so he was sentenced to serve 20 days in the county jail.Following his attempt to take his life with a razor he was taken to theCharles City hospital as the local hospital could not make room for an extra patient, and there was not adequate facilities in the sheriffs quarters.
Sheriff Haberkorn says another check is standing against Mayer for an amount in excess of $20 which brings it in the class of a felony. He will now be required to sign an appearanc bond of $250 and is bound over to theOctober term of court.
Mayer was convicted on a similar charge March 22 then fined $100, of which $75 was suspended upon good behavior. that suspension is now revoked.

Die vermutete Verwandschaft bestätigte sich zwar nicht, aber dennoch sind inzwischen viele Nachfahren dieser Allscheider Auswanderer zum Datenbestand hinzugekommen, so dass ich diesen hiermit zur Verfügung stellen möchte.
