CASSOPOLIS, Mich. - Ruth Lucille Boyer, 98, of Cassopolis and formerly of Union, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Thursday Jan. 15, at Cass County Medical Care Facility in Cassopolis. She was born Aug. 29, 1916, in Bristol, Ind., to the late Henry and Stella (Fisher) Detwiler. On Feb. 11, 1937, in Wabash, Ind., she married Edson S. Boyer. He preceded her in death Jan. 9, 2002, in Elkhart, Ind. Surviving are three children, Edward (Marilyn) Boyer and Beatrice Howie both of Union and Deborah Durinski of Davie, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ernest Detwiler, and a sister, Betty Zimmerle, both of Elkhart. She was preceded in death by a son, Alvin Boyer; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Boyer; a sister, Gertrude Hackenburg; and a brother, Billy Detwiler. Ruth enjoyed quilting and she made and completed several quilts. She also enjoyed researching family history. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Elkhart. Ruth was the secretary/treasurer of Boyer’s John Deere Dealership in Union for 26 years. Visitation for family and friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Pastor Carl Henry from Northside Baptist Church will preside. Burial will follow in Adamsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
