Notes for this person

HANS HENRICH HOLZKLAU, son of Johannes Holtzklau and Hebel Flender Muess, was born at Weidenau in 1646/7 and died at Oberfischbach, where his son, Jacob, was then schoolmaster, in August 1711. In 1664, Hans Henrich was admitted to the Guild of Smelterers and Hammersmiths, but later followed his father's original calling of schoolmaster. He married GERTRUD SOLBACH, probably a daughter of Johann Solbach of Siegen. She was born in 1644 and died at Trupbach some time after 1683, when her youngest child, the emigrant Jacob, was born, and before 1692, when the death register at Siegen begins. The records show that Hans Henrich Holzklau was schoolmaster at Trupbach in 1667-1670 and again after 1681, though he had passed on the office to his eldest son, Johannes Holzklau, by 1693. From 1671 to about 1680, the baptismal register of Krombach shows that he was schoolmaster at that comparatively large village in the northern part of Nassau-Siegen. There is still standing at Trupbach a very old chapel, which is probably the same in which Hans Henrich taught, and in which his sons, Johannes and Jacob, went to school.
