Leland "Mutz" and Elva Pageler of Wamego will be guests of honor at a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Senior Citizen Center at 501 Ash in Wamego in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Reception hosts will be their children and their spouses Doug and Diane Pageler, Boise, Idaho; Mike and Connie Pageler, Mesa, Ariz.; and Dana and Rich Cohen, Clarksville, Tenn. The couple have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Elva Freel and Leland Pageler were married Oct. 1, 1951, in Huntsville, Ark.

Mr. Pageler retired in 1988 from the Fort Riley Commissary after 20 years of service.

Mrs. Pageler retired in 1991 from the Riley County District Court as a court clerk after eight years of service.

WAMEGO -- Elva Ilene Freel Pageler, 72, Wamego, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at a Westmoreland care home.

Mrs. Pageler worked at Riley County District Court's office in Wamego for more than 11 years and was secretary at Wamego High School for 16 years.

She was born Dec. 13, 1929, in Topeka, the daughter of Alex and Wilma Meredith Freel. She graduated from Jetmore High School and attended The University of Kansas to earn a teaching certificate. She had lived in Wamego since the early 1950s.

Mrs. Pageler was active in the American Cancer Society's Walk for Life in Wamego. She was a member of the auxiliaries to the Black Jack Post of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Wamego, and she was a member of Wells Creek Emmanuel United Church of Christ.

She married Leland A. "Mutz" Pageler on Oct. 1, 1951, in Huntsville, Ark. He survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Doug Pageler, Boise, Idaho, and Mike Pageler, Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Dana Cohen, Clarksville, Tenn.; a sister, Karen Goodman, Aurora, Colo.; five brothers, Daryl Freel, Loveland, Colo., Jack Freel, Jetmore, Bill Freel, in Kansas, and Rod Freel and Byron Freel, both of Aurora, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Burial will be in Wamego City Cemetery. Mrs. Pageler will lie in state at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the funeral home.
