Broke Soil for Kaw Farms

When Conrad Beasterfeld came to this section of Kansas in 1871, the trip by rail from Kansas City to Wamego required ten hours. Today the streamliner covers this distance in less than two hours.

The Kaw township farmer, past seventy, was only five when he arrived in Kansas. His reminiscences are very interesting. Chief among them is an experience of his teens when he broke prairie for $5 an acre and id the job behind an ox-drawn steel beam.

The Beasterfelds are banking heavily on July returns this year. Conrad and his sons have more than 400 acres in wheat. - St. Marys Star

The many relatives and friends of Conrad Beasterfeldt were shocked Monday afternoon to hear of his death in a veteran's hospital in Illinois. Death was due to a brain tumor following a stroke three months ago. Mr. and Mrs. Beasterfeldt, the former Hilma Schwanke were born and raised in this community. The had been living in Topeka.

CONRAD BEASTERFELD

Conrad Beasterfeld, son of Conrad Beasterfeld and his wife Marie, nee Koelling, was born January 24, 1867, at Crete, Illinois,. Soon after his birth he received into his Lord's kingdom by the rite of Baptism. At the usual age he was received into full communicant membership in the Lutheran Church by the solemn rite of confirmation.

At the age of six years, he with his parents came to Wabaunsee county, Kansas, where he spent the rest of his life.

On April 20, 1891, he was united in marriage to Miss Lena Wille. To this union were born nine children, one of whom, Louis, preceded his father in death. On January 6, 1925, his help meet was taken from him in death.

The deceased spent the greater part of his life in Wabaunsee county. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was well known in both Wabaunsee and Pottawatomie counties.

His heath had been failing for some time and all that medical aid and loving hands could do, had been done. On October 8, at 3:40 am, death came to him quietly. He attained the age of 73 years, 8 months, and 14 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure eight children, two daughters, Mrs. Laura Pageler and Mrs. Rosie Reiners of Belvue; six sons, William , Richard, And Andrew of Belvue, George of Soldier, Conrad of Topeka and August of Los Angeles, California; twenty five grandchildren; one brother, William Beasterfeld of cook, Nebraska; one sister, Mrs. Wm. Holz of Delia, Kansas; and a host of relatives and friends.

"Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; yea saith the spirit, hat hey may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."

Funeral services will be held October 10th, (today) from the Wells Creek Lutheran Church at 2:30 pm Rev. J.G. Brinkmann will be in charge of services.
