His full name was originally Georg Freimund Wolfgang Schütz, son of Emil A. and Paulina (Müller) Schütz. ELKHART, INDIANA - Rev. George F. Schutes, LL.D., aged 64, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran church in Valparaiso, Ind., for the last 14 years, died on Wednesday afternoon in the home of his son, Gerhard R. Schutes, 810 Taylor street, Elkhart. His second wife, to whom he was married June 24, 1914, was Miss T. Rosa Borneman, sister of Herman F., Edward C. and George O. Borneman, of Elkhart, and she survives with the son from the first marriage and two grandchildren, George E. and John Schutes. Dr. Schutes was born Jan 23, 1874, in Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany, coming to Brooklyn, N.Y., with his mother and sister, now Mrs. Paul C. (Elizabeth S.) Engelbert, of Buffalo, N.Y., at the age of nine years. He was a graduate of the Brooklyn High School, of Concordia Lutheran college in Ft. Wayne, Ind., and of Concordia Lutheran seminary in St. Louis, Mo. He had been in the ministry for 40 years. It was through his efforts that the Valparaiso university became a Lutheran university, where the doctor of law degree was conferred upon him. He was president of the ministerial association until his recent illness. He was brought to his son's home two months ago after having undergone three operations. The body is in the Walter Meyer mortuary.
