Johann Eduard Kautz left Klein Tucker, Kreis Butow, Pomerania, Prussia on April 24, 1868, with Johanna, Mathilde, and Bertha. They arrived on the ship Saxonia in New York City, July 8, 1868.
The family settled near Dale, Outagamie, WI and soon settled near Larrabee, Waupaca, WI where they homesteaded a 100-acre farm. They built a large home on a knoll in the center of the lowland.
His brother, Friedrich August Kautz, traveled with Johann and his family.
