Ralph D. Brinkman Waverly resident, 84
Ralph D. Brinkman, 84, of Waverly died at the Waverly Care Center on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002.
He was born on Nov. 20, 1917, in Bennet, son of Herman Frederick and Meta (Brockman) Brinkman. He graduated from Douglas High School in 1935. He was married to Virginia Nash on Aug. 24, 1947, in Palmyra.
As a farmer he raised Red Angus and Short Horn cattle and had a large flock of Hampshire and Suffolk sheep. He was a salesman for the Archer Oil Co.
He served on the Otoe County ASCS Committee and worked as field reporter for the ASCS office. He was a member of the Palmyra Telephone Co. Board, member of the Crow Hill School Board, two-term member of the Palmyra School Board, served as a judge for both local and national elections and was a member of the Democratic party. He was leader for the Silver Creek 4-H Club, and usher at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse.
Survivors include daughters, Jane (Ken) Wood of Sugar Land, Texas, Joyce (Jerry) Lee of Omaha, Jean (Jerry) Obermier of Lincoln, Julie (Kip) Allison of Gresham; sons, J. Fred Brinkman of North Dakota, Jonathan (Rhonda) Brinkman of Palmyra; nine grandchildren, Brent Spinar, Cheri Wood, Christopher and Sabrina Lee, Lindsay, Jenna, and Megan Allison, Justine and Jared Brinkman: two step-grandchildren, Sarah (Jason) Menagh, Sonya Heusman; one great-grandson, Trey Menagh; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Minnie Schreiner, Leta White; two brothers, Harvey and Clarence Brinkman.
The funeral service is today, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m. at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Palmyra with the Rev. Mary Grundman and the Rev. Brenda Pfeifly officiating. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery at Syracuse. Arrangements were made by Fusselman-Wymore Funeral Home, Syracuse.
The family suggests memorials to Waverly Care Center or the family's choice.
