"Brockman, Ambrose (widow Elizabeth). W.O. 22291, W.C. 16514,
BLWt 25647-80-50. 4 Feb 1851. Clay co., MO. Ambrose Brockman
of said county, aged 61, declares he was a private in the company
of Capt. John Shirley in the regiment of militia of Major Hawkins and
Lt. Colonel Barbee. He was drafted in Adair Co., KY, July 1812 for
six months and was discharged in Adair county in Feb. 1813. He
applies for bounty land. 8 May 1878. Clay co., MO. Elizabeth Brock-
man of said county, aged 90, declares she is a widow of Ambros
Brockman who was a private in the company of Capt. Barber in the
regiment of Kentucky militia of Col.Turk. He was drafted in 1812 for
six months and served for six months. He was 77 years and 15 days
old when he died in Clay co., MO, 11 March 1862. At the time of his
enlistment he was a farmer, born in Virginia, 6 feet, dark hair, blue
eyes, fair complexion. As Elizabeth Grasner she was married in
Garrard co., KY 10 Apr 1815 by Pleasant Olverson, a Methodist
preacher. They moved from Garrard county to Russell co., KY in
1815 and lived there for 17 years, then in 1832 moved to Clay co.,
MO.
10 Apr 1815. Garrard co., KY. Marriage Bond: Ambrose Brockman
to Elizabeth Grasner. Security, John Ham.
21 May 1878. Clay co., MO. Alvah Merrit of said county, aged 74,
declares Ambros Brockman died in Clay county in the spring of 1862.
22 May 1878. Clay co., MO. Adam Pence of Kearney, aged 76,
makes a similar declaration.
Elizabeth Brockman was dropped from the rolls 4 Mar 1881 on
account of her death.
The Third Auditor reported that Ambrose Brockman served under
Capt. Shirley from 23 Aug 1812 to 23 Mar 1813.
Bounty Land Warrant 24647 for 80 acres was issued 26 Dec 1851"
- According to "Kentucky Soldiers of the War of 1812" Ambrose
Brockman, private, enlisted 28 Aug 1812 for six months. Roll of
Captain John W. Shirley's Company, Barbee's Regiment, Kentucky
Militia.
- From the 1860 Clay co., MO census the following is found:
Ambrose Brockman, age 74, born in VA
Elizabeth Brockman, age 73, born in KY
William Brockman, age 28, born in KY
Ambrose Brockman, age 23, born in KY
John Brockman, age 10, born in MO
William and Ambrose were sons of Ambrose and Elizabeth but
it is most probable that John, age 10, was not their son but, instead,
was a grandson. There is nothing in the census to indicate relation-
ship, only the belief that it would be unlikely, although not impossible,
that John was a son of Ambrose; instead, this John was probably a
son of John Brockman (born 1824) and Margaret Pence. This John
(b 1824) must have died before March of 1854 when his wife, Margaret
Pence Brockman married her second husband, Thomas Creighton
Eastin. John (b 1850) was living with his Brockman grandparents,
Ambrose and Elizabeth Brockman according to the 1860 census.
Margaret Pence Brockman and Thomas Creighton Eastin had a son,
Thomas Creighton Easton, Jr., born 15 Mar 1860.
