Nachdem ihr Ehemann Christian Bredehöft, am 13.05.1872 in Bargstedt im Alter von 43 gestorben war, wanderte die Witwe Maria Catharina Bredehöft, geborene Helmers, nach Amerika aus.
In Begleitung ihrer Kinder Anna und Cord Peter kam sie mit dem Schiff "Pommerania", von Hamburg aus am 28.04.1874 in New York an.
