Johann Christopher Lierly Geburtsname: Johann Christopher Lierly Auch bekannt als: Johann Christoph Layrle Geschlecht: männlich Geburt: 1710 Konstanz, Konstanz, Baden-Württemberg, Germany Heirat: Ehepartner: Anna Maria Catherina Lierly Nc Heirat: Ehepartner: Elizabeth Christina Holtzhauser 1754 Culpeper, Virginia, United States Tod: Mai 1786 Salisbury, Rowan, North Carolina, USA Eltern: Soloman Lyerly, Christina Lnu Ehepartner: Elizabeth Christina Holtzhauser, Anna Maria Catherina Lierly Kinder: Barbara Lyerle, Jacob Lyerly, John Christopher Lyerly, Catherine Lyerly, Peter Lyerly, Margaret Lierly, Zacharius Lierly Quelle: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/4:1:L6W9-HDK Zusätzliche Informationen LifeSketch: John Christopher Lierly, or Lyerla, or Lyerlee, or Larly, ... the list goes on there are dozens of spellings - and mis-spellings of this sur-name. Mostly because it is pronounced Lar-Lee but spelled Lierly or lyerla most of the time. This is my maternal grandmother's last name and she said that you just quit correcting people when they pronounce it incorrectly - for instance in the book Abstracts of North Carolina Wills, Rowan County, pg 276, his name is written ChristopherLayrle, whereas in the book Revolutionary War Roster of Soldiers it is written Lyerly. Yet in his will it is written Lierly, and on the passenger manifest it is Leyrle. Many of his descendants have changed the spelling along the way - but anyonewith Lyerly or Lyerla or however they spell it - if it leads them to Johann Christopher (he went by Christopher) they are related as he is the first Lyerla to enter this country - he is the beginning and he had seven children who went on to havechildren and I have found relatives all over the nation. Johann Christopher Layrle or Lyerly was born in 1710 in Lake Constance Germany (very south Germany on the border with France and Switzerland), and died in 1786 in Rowan County, North Carolina. I found the record of his arrival to America, he landed at Philidelphia, a passenger on the ship "Richard and Mary", 30 September, 1754. He was in Culpeper County Virginia for awhile and my Great Uncle Howard Lyerla wrote to me that Johann Christopher (he went by Christopher) was married at HarpersFerry to Elizabeth Christina Holtzhauser. From my great-uncle he states that our ancestor was a school teacher and very religious. It is recorded in the book "Rhinelanders on the Yadkin" - that Johann Christopher was in Rowan County North Carolina by 1771. he was a member of Organ Church. Johann and one Christopher Rintleman (Rendleman) were trusted members of the community and they were sent to England to solicit aid for the church work in their colony. They needed an ordained minister(who spoke the Old German), and a school teacher. The Rev. Theodore S. Drage, Rector of St. Lukes Episcopal Church of Salisbury forwarded a letter to Governor William Tryon of North Carolina asking that they be sent. On July 19, 1772 they made their way to Charleston, SC bound for Europe. King George and Queen Charlotte added a gift to their purse. In the fall of 1773 Layrle and Rendleman returned to North Carolina with Rev. Adolph Nussmann (1732-94), he would later take Johann Christopher's daughter Barbara as his second wife. Coming with Rev. Nussmann was Johann Gottfried Arends (Arndt) (1740-1807) as a teacher, later ordained as a Lutheran minister. Rev. Nussmann became the founder of the Lutheran Church in North Carolina. |
