Gladys Edna Tesene, 90 of rural Mason City, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 7, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Healey, Chaplain Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, rural Rockwell, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the Gladys E. Tesene Memorial Fund. Gladys was born July 14, 1913 at Swaledale, Iowa, the daughter of Louis F. and Edna Mary (England) Kruggel. She graduated from Swaledale High School and attended Iowa State Teacher's College, Cedar Falls where she received her teachers certificate. Gladys was married to Walter K. Tesene on June 4, 1932 in Nashua, Iowa. She lived in Swaledale for 18 years and rural Clear Lake for 72 years. Gladys was a member of the Home Improvement Club, Swaledale Federated Garden Club, CCIC Club, DD Club and Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake. Gladys is survived by two daughters, Nadine Drennan and her husband, Bill, New Sharon, Iowa, and Leanne Teachey and her husband, Doyle, Hilliard, Fla.; and two sons, David Tesene and his wife, Jan, Manhattan, Kan. and Jay Tesene, Carson City, Nev.; grandchildren, David and Abby Tesene, Manhattan, Kan., Brian and Lorraine Tesene, Manhattan, Kan., Kathleen and Kelly Allen, Seattle, Wash., Heather Drennan and James Bowles, Seattle, Wash., Mike and Denise Moss, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Judy Moss, Washington, D.C., Suzanne and Tim Hightower, Spearfish, S.D., Kris and Carter Baldwin, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Angie Sturm, South Lake Tahoe, Nev., and Thomas Sturm, Omaha, Neb.; great-grandchildren, Wesley Tesene, Michael Tesene, Rachel Tesene, Aza Allen, Bella Allen, Avery Drennan, Milo Bowles, Finn Bowles, Caleb Hightower, Samantha Hightower, Jaden Hightower, Corey Baldwin and Kayli Baldwin; a sister, Peggy S. Kruempel, Chatfield, Minn., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Tesene; a brother, Louis Kruggel, and her parents, Louis and Edna Kruggel.
