Bernhard Carl Ludwig SIEVERS

Bernard Sievers was born on 16 December 1853 in Frankenlust, Michigan. He was educated at Concordia College, Ft. Wayne, beginning in 1867 and graduating from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis in 1875. On22 August 1875 he was ordained and installed by J.F. Biltz at St. Paul's in Concordia, Missouri, where he taught a school of seven grades ten months out of the year. He served for his second call at Cape Girardeau, Missouri, beginning in 1879. When Christian LOEBER was called as director to Concordia College, Milwaukee, the congregation of St. Stephan's called Sievers. He accepted and was installed on 18 October 1885, where he served until 1928 when he resigned on account of ill health but continued on as assistant pastor for three years. He was honored by the St. Louis faculty with a doctor'sdegree, contributed many articles to "Der Lutheraner", was appointed Visitor-at-Large of the Southern Wisconsin District (1888), was elected vice-president of the district in 1891, and a few months later, president. He served as a member of the District Mission Board and for 31 years was the secretary to the Board of Control of the local Concordia College.
