Irene M. Kieler was born on April 8, 1919, in Paris Township, Grant County, Wisconsin, daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth (Loeffelholz) Kieler. Irene Kieler married Donald F. Kowalski on June 7, 1938, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kieler, Wisconsin.

Donald Kowalski, who was called "Doc," was born on June 21, 1917, in Dickeyville, Wisconsin, son of George and Theresa (Bode) Kowalski. Doc and Irene Kowalski resided at Cassville, Wisconsin, where they were members of St. Charles Catholic Church. Doc owned a Skelly Gas Station and used car dealership.

Then in 1946, being a man of vision and manual labor, Doc co-founded Kowalski-Kieler, Inc., with Irene's brother Lester Kieler, and Irene was the firm's orginal bookkeeper.

Donald F. "Doc" Kowalski, 85, of Cassville, Wisconsin, died Friday, June 20, 2003, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster, Wisconsin. Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 24, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville, with the Rev. John Norder officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was survived by his wife of 65 years, Irene, of Cassville, Wis.; seven children, Mary Jane (Roger) Droessler, of Dickeyville, Wis., Julaine (Wilfred) Udelhofen, Colleen (Allen) Duve and Donna Jean (Larry) Bernhardt, all of Cassville, Wis., Betty Lou (Wayne) Kruser and James (Charlotte), both of Dickeyville, Wis., and Collette (Rev. Tom Hallowell) Kowalski, of Schuyler, Neb.; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Mary Lou), of Devil's Lake, N. Dak., and Gene (Judy), of Riverside, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Kenneth.

Irene M. Kowalski, 87, of Cassville, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster, Wisconsin. Services were at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 7, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Kowalsi was survived by seven children, Mary Jane (Roger) Droessler, of Dickeyville, Wis., Julaine (Wilfred) Udelhofen, of Cassville, Wis., Betty Lou (Wayne) Kruser, of Dickeyville, Wis., James (Charlotte) Kowalski, of Dickeyville, Wis., Donna Jean (Larry) Bernhardt, of Cassville, Wis., Collette (the Rev. Tom Hallowell) Kowalski, of Schuyler, Neb., and Colleen Kowalski, of Cassville, Wis.; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Orpha Schneider, of Cuba City, Wis., and Sr. Genesia Ginter, OSF, of Milwaukee, Wis.; a brother, Arthur (Kathleen) Kieler, of Hazel Green, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Doc, Irene was preceded in death by her brothers, Lester (Shirley) Kieler and Gene Ginter; and a brother-in-law, Francis Schneider.
