Maryville, Mo. - Sr. Mary Christina Wiederholt, 95, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at St. Mary of the Angels Convent in St. Louis, Mo. Born Mary Elizabeth Wiederholt on Dec. 1, 1913, on a Nodaway County farm about two miles from Conception, Mo., she was one of four children born to George Frank Wiederholt and Dorothy Theresa (Miller) Wiederholt Wirth.

On March 4, 1930, Mary Elizabeth joined the Sisters of St. Francis of Maryville, who later reunited with the Sisters of St. Mary to become the Franciscan Sisters of Mary. She received the name Sr. Mary Christina, and she professed final vows on Oct. 4, 1935.

As a registered nurse, she served at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hannibal, Mo., and at St. Mary Hospital in Nebraska City, Neb. She was assistant administrator of St. Francis Hospital and superior at Mount Alverno Convent from 1977 to 1979. After retiring in 1986, she lived in Baraboo, Wis., then in St. Louis.

She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Irene A. Dunne of Plains, Kan., as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, a sister, and stepparents.

Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, at the convent. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, St. Louis.
