Wolfgang Rieß wurde 1540 Neubürger in Wunsiedel.
1545, 1549, und 1551 war er Schaumeister, ein Lederer und auch ein Schuster – siehe Ratswahlbuch B 25.
Er war Schuster, wie auch seine Söhne und seine Enkel.
1555 und 1564 besaß er ein Haus im 14. Zehnten, das auch sein Sohn Hans Rieß 1586 erhalten hatte.
