Myrtle Eloise FURREY

Myrtle E. Furman, 96, of Rocky Hill, beloved wife of the late Kenneth L. Furman, passed away on Monday, (July 9, 2012) with her family by her side. Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of Laura A. (Canfield) and Marvin L. Furrey. Myrtle lived most of her life in Rocky Hill. She was a life-long member of the Rocky Hill Congregational Church where she participated in the Stepney Guild, the Quilting Club and helped to start the first nursery school. She was also a Charter Member of the Rocky Hill Garden Club and enjoyed tending her beautiful gardens. After graduating from the White Plains High School class of 1933, Myrtle began her career at Travelers and later worked at the family-owned L. W. Button Insurance Agency. Her passion for life was centered around her loving family and friends which included her three children and their spouses, Judy and Larry McMannon, Bob and Carol Furman, Linda and Dennis Flanagan, six grandchildren, Scott, Laura, Sean, Erinn, Meghan, seven great grandchildren and her nieces Barbara Doucette and Susan Button. She is predeceased by her sister Arlene Furrey and her brother Richard Button. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, July 15 at 2 p.m. at the Rocky Hill Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to either the Rocky Hill Congregational Church, 805 Main Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or the Connecticut Hospice of Branford, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
