Farmer. John Palmer Graves was the son of Oliver Graves (1814-1896) and Lucy Palmer Story Graves (1825-1895). Husband of Emma Wadsworth (1854-1905). Pioneer-came to the Colorado Territory in a covered wagon in 1861 with his family from Illinois. Father of Frank O. Graves ((1873-1962), Philip Eldro Graves (1875-1962), Leonard Chase Graves (1877-1912), Ernest N. Graves (1880-1954), Kate Graves (1881-1882?), Bertha M. Graves [Crooks] (1884-1981), Dolly Graves (1886-1887), George Wadsworth Graves (1888-1917), Fred Graves (1889-1897), Clarence Graves (1893-1954), and, Cecil Graves (1896-1897). Brother of E. O. Graves ( - )-Boulder, Colorado, and Mary P. Smith, (1854-1925)-Arvada, Colorado. Moved to California in 1910 for reasons of health-died of hypertension and hardening of the arteries. 1869 "Be diligent and careful and humble and thankful" 1870 "Be diligent careful thoughtful and humble" From the endpaper of John P. Graves' journal.====US Census: Jun 16, 1880 they were living in Vasquez, Jefferson, Colorado he was a farmer. There were 4 children listed. US Census: Jul 3, 1900 they were living in Big Dry, Arapahoe, Colorado he was a farmer. She listed they had 6 children, all still living and 7 were listed. (Note: She should have listed they had 8 children and 7 were still living) US Census: Jan 16, 1920 he was a widower living in Long Beach, Los Angeles, California
