William Smith alias Heriz or Harris of Withcote co. Leicester, Lord of the Manor of Withcote 1495 when he presented to the Rectory. William married daughter of William Ashby. --- William Smyth formerly Heres, whose descent is claimed from William de Heriz (d abt 1179), Baron at the time of Henry II. Was granted arms in 1494. (BLG re Smyth of Rathcoursey) --- "The original name of the family was Heriz, but in the reign of Hen VII, William Heriz of Withcock, Leics, assumed the name and arms of Smith.
