Colonel John R. Stephens (Uriah, Uriah, Uriah, Thomas, Henry) was born inAthens, Pennsylvania, March 4, 1786. He lived in Hornellsville, New York,and was a farmer and large land owner. He was the first Clerk of thetown, and was also, Supervisor, Collector, Justice of the Peace, andColonel of the Militia. He was a prominent Mason.
