Ebenezer Stephens/Stevens was born at Stonington, Connecticut, andbaptized in the Congregational Church June 20, 1725. He married Sophia. October 16, 1749, he was admitted an inhabitant ofCanaan, Connecticut to take part in town affairs. March 20, 1751 hebought a farm in Canaan from Uriah Stephens/Stevens, his brother-in-law,and May 5, 1752, sold his farm to Henry Stephens Jr., late of Stonington.April 14, 1753, Seth Tabor deeds to Ebenezer Stephens/Stevens of Canaan,68 acres of land in Canaan. Ebenezer Stephens/Stevens served two weeks in Lieutenant-ColonelWhitney's Company of Canaan men at the relief of Fort William Henry, NewYork, August, 1757. (Connecticut History Colonial, French and Indian WarRolls, 1755-1757, Vol. I, pages 208-209.) August 31, 1762, Ebenezer Stephens/Stevens of Sheffield, Massachusetts,purchased land in Canaan from Noah Stephens/Stevens of Canaan,Connecticut. September 29, 1762, Ebenezer Stephens/Stevens of Sheffield,Massachusetts, conveys his Canaan land to Joshua Preston. August 2, 1764,Oliver Cleaveland conveys to Ebenezer Stephens/Stevens of Sheffield aparcel of land in Sheffield. In 1777, 1778, and 1780, he serfved in Colonel Ashley's BerkshireRegiment at Fort Edward, New York, Manchester Vermont, Stillwater, NewYork, West Point, New York, to sustain the forts and at Bennington,Vermont to guard the frontier. David Noble, June 5, 1780, conveys two parcels of land in New Marlboro,Massachusetts, to Ebenezer Stephens/Stevens of New Marlboro,Massachusetts. February 19, 1783, he sold to Richard Stephens/Stevens ofNew Marlboro, 60 acres of land in New Marlboro. March 7 1785, EbenezerStephens/Stevens of Philipstown, Albany County (now Nassau, Rens. Co.),New York, conveys land in Sheffield, Massachusetts to Samuel Johnson. From the family Bible of Richard Stephens/Stevens, son of Ebenezer istaken the following: "My honored father died February 27, 1801 in the77th year of his age. My honored mother died February 1814.
