Albert James Pastorius, died on Friday, September 18th at the age of 64 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was surrounded by his family in their home located in Oxnard, CA. Big Al, as he was affectionately known by his many friends, was born May 2, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There he graduated from high school and naturally developed a devout loyalty to his favorite sports team, The Pittsburgh Steelers.
Following high school, Al enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War era. Following his tour of duty he began a long career of 40 years with private military contractors where he developed a specialty in automated cad design of missiles systems. He was also an active member of the America Legion, Post 48 in Oxnard.
Al enjoyed spending time golfing, bowling, fishing, and especially watching his beloved Steelers. But his biggest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to his lovely wife of almost 40 years. A supportive and proud father to his three children and five grandchildren.
He will truly be missed by his wife Candace and their children: Nicole Pastorius wife of Carlos Paredes, Dane Pastorius and Brett Pastorius husband to Priscilla Gagua Pastorius. His five grandchildren: Andrea Paredes, Nicholas Paredes, Jaycie Paredes, Diego Paredes, Brenden Pastorius, and countless friends and family.
A celebration of life service with military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Hills on Saturday, October 3rd at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home in Camarillo. Following the service, there will be a reception at The American Legion, Post 48 in Oxnard at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations to The American Legion. Assisting the family with funeral arrangements is Conejo Mountain Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo. (805) 482-1959.
