Peoria Journal Star, The (IL) - Friday, May 25, 2007
PEORIA - Marilyn J. Davis, 81, of Peoria passed away at
4:10 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria with her family at her side.
She was born Oct. 2, 1925, in Peoria, Ill., to Frank Joseph and Theresa Berger Bour. She married Richard Lee Davis on Jan. 24, 1948, in Peoria, Ill. He died Oct. 27, 1992.
When Marilyn was only 2, she was preceded in death by her mother and later by her father and three special aunts, Freda, Dora and Marie Berger, who helped raise her. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren.
Marilyn is survived by five daughters, Janet (Craig) Sears of Decatur, Ill., Joanne (Jim) Waechter of Morton, Ill., Judy (Bud Adams) of Washington, Ill., Jill Davis and Jacki (Dan) Patten, both of East Peoria; three sons, Jim at home, John (Rusti) of West Peoria, and Jerold (Margie) of New Lenox, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Molly, Matt, Abbey, Andy, Julie, Sarah, Ben, Randy, Margaret, Mike and Madee; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Brooklyn. Also surviving are one sister, Geraldine (Fred) Best of Peoria, Ill., and one sister-in-law, Betty (Ed) Kirgan of Pekin, Ill.
In 1943, Marilyn started her working career at the Corps of Engineers and later at Caterpillar Inc. She also worked at the Academy of Our Lady. Marilyn was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church for more than 50 years and worked there, too, as a parish secretary.
Marilyn was devoted to her longtime hobby and interest in genealogy. She wrote and published "Eisele Cousins 100 Years" and dedicated her book to her eight children. She was a proofreader for Peoria Genealogical Society. Marilyn was also a member of the Versailles Genealogy Society, the Catholic Women's League and the Moss Bradley Neighborhood Association.
A strong and brave woman, Marilyn spent her entire life taking care of others. Her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy. She taught them, by example, the meaning of selfless love. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, patience, compassion and a love for ice cream.
Marilyn and her family will always be grateful for the wonderful care she received for the last 23 years from Dr. Michael Veeder.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at St. Mark's Catholic Church. Father Charles Klamut will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2007, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, Peoria, with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to services on Tuesday at church.
