Delaware State News (Dover, DE) - Tuesday, March 1, 2005
OCEAN VIEW - John George Staib III of Ocean View, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, in his home, after a long illness. He was 82.
Mr. Staib was born in Wilmington, son of the late Charles Robert Sr. and Bessie Councilman (Hollis) Staib.
He was a U.S. Army Air Forces, 56th Air Depot Group, World War II veteran, discharged as a corporal.
Mr. Staib was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, the VFW Mason Dixon Post 7234 of Quillens Point in Ocean View, serving twice as post commander and a member and past state commander of Delaware Veterans Inc. He also was a member of the Kiwanis Club, receiving the 1972 Man of the Year award.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Hudgen; a daughter, Helen Hudgen; and a brother, Charles Robert Staib Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Clara M. Staib; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Wayne Staib, Gray and Debra Staib; Patrick and Stephanie Staib and Daniel and Diana Hudgen; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Carolyn and Clifford Evans, Margaret and Michael Jeanes and Theresa and Michael SantaBarbara; a sister, Elizabeth Temple; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Ruth and Gary Rollins of Atlanta, Ga.
Services were held in Henlopen Memorial Park Cemetery, near Milton.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 600 N. DuPont Hwy., Suite 107, Georgetown, DE 19947.
