Von kleinen Anf&auml;ngen in Breslau und Berlin, wohin er Ostern 1851&uuml;bersiedelte, schwang er sich durch rastlose Th&auml;tigkeit und kaufm&auml;nnische Intelligenz empor. Er begr&uuml;ndete und leitete eine Kunstwollfabrik, eine der ersten in Deutschland, so erfolgreich, da&szlig; diese deutsche Industrie mit der von England wetteifern und die entsprechende englische Waare fast entbehrlich machen konnte. Jener Fabrik schlo&szlig; sich sp&auml;ter eine Spinnerei und Weberei an. Ferner begr&uuml;ndete er ein R&ouml;hrenwalzwerk, welches einen solchen Aufschwung nahm, da&szlig; er noch gleiche Fabrikbetriebe in Charlottenburg, D&uuml;sseldorf, Gerstenbaum,Oderberg in Oester.-Schlesien und Zweiggesch&auml;fte in Wien und Moskau errichtete. Lange Zeit war er Vorsitzender der Norddeutschen Textil-Berufsgenossenschaft, ferner der Finanzcommission der st&auml;dtischen h&ouml;heren Webeschule in Berlin, sowie Beirath des Reichs-Versicherungsamtes, &ouml;fters auch Schiedsrichter in kaufm&auml;nnischen Streitfragen. Sein hoher Wohlth&auml;tigkeitssinn beth&auml;tigte sich u.&nbsp;a. in der Unterst&uuml;tzung von mancherlei Unternehmungen, z.&nbsp;B. des Breslauer Kunstgewerbemuseums, zu dem er den ersten Grundstein legte, und in humanen Stiftungen f&uuml;r die zahlreichen Beamten und Arbeiter seiner Fabriken.
