Walter P. Ketelsen 1916-2003 Walter Peter Ketelsen was born December 16, 1916, the son of John andTina Schroeder Ketelsen. He died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at his home inCharter Oak, Iowa at the age of eighty-six. Walt was born on a farm near Charter Oak and received his education ata rural school near his home and parochial schools. He was baptizedand confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak. On July 8, 1939, Walt was united in marriage to Eldora Meggers. Thecouple made their home on a farm near Charter Oak and were blessedwith the birth of five children. Along with farming, Walt did custombaling and worked at the Dunlap Livestock Auction for several years.They retired and moved to Charter Oak in 1983, where Walt lived untilthe time of his death. Walt was a lifelong devoted member of St. John Lutheran Church,Charter Oak and the Charter Oak Community Club. He was a lovinghusband and caring father who enjoyed playing cards with family andfriends. In his leisure time, Walt enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Donna in 1996,and two sisters, Alice Lorensen and Laura in infancy. Survivorsinclude his wife, Eldora of Charter Oak; three sons, Phil Ketelsen andhis wife, Jolene of Mapleton; Larry Ketelsen and his wife, Jan ofCharter Oak; Rick Ketelsen and his wife, Rhonda of Denison; onedaughter, Janice Miller and her husband, Gene of Denison; son-in-law,Leo Jacobsen of Walnut; eleven grandchildren, Walt Jacobsen and hiswife, Kim; Steve Jacobsen and his wife, Mary; Deb Jacobsen; Susan Leekand her husband, Brandon; Brian Ketelsen and his wife, Renata; Tina,Joan and Cindy Ketelsen; Derek, Nathan and Abby Ketelsen; fivegreat-grandchildren; one sister, Alma Preul of Denison, formerly ofCharter Oak; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, May 21, 2003 atthe St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernstofficiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. PaulCemetery, Charter Oak. Marjorie Neddermeyer provided the organaccompaniment for congregational hymns "What a Friend We Have inJesus", "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "Amazing Grace, How Sweet theSound". Pallbearers were: Harold Lorenzen, Darrell Ketelsen, LeeStence, LeRoy Nemitz, Bob Preul and Bob Kroll. A Prayer Service washeld at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at the Huebner Funeral Homein Charter Oak. The family invited everyone in attendance at theservice to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served bythe Ladies Aid.
