Notes for this person

Obituary from "The Cuba Review," Cuba, Missouri, dated Thursday, December 31, 1908, page 1:

"MRS. HERZOG DIES WHILE HER HUSBAND IS IN EUROPE

Educator's Wife Succumbs to Pneumonia After Illness of But Two Days

The death of Mrs. Margaret Herzog, which occurred December 26, 1908, at her home, was made more sad by the fact that her husband, Peter Herzog, a well-known educator of St. Louis, is absent in Germany.

Mr. Herzog is principal of the Blair School. He went abroad some time ago to revisit his native land and to inspect the English and German schools. His wife was in the best of health when he departed and indeed was not ill until Thursday, when she was attacked with pneumonia, which quickly terminated fatally.

The children are: Dr. G.G.A. Herzog, of Cuba, Mo., Miss Ottillia Herzog, supervisor of music, Board of Education, St. Louis, Mo., Albert A. Herzog, a druggist, of New Jersey, Otto B. Herzog, a merchant, of New Jersey, and Miss Bertha Herzog, secretary of the Mississippi Valley Advertising Company of St. Louis."

Margaretha immigrated to the U.S. about 1870, per 1900 federal census for St. Louis, Mo.

Per LDS family search, Deutschland Geburten und Taufen, 1558-1898:

Her parents were Johann Adam Klein (b. about 1808, son of Peter Klein and Maria Elisabeth Rump) and Katharina Gabel (b. about 1817, daughter of Nickolaus Gabel and Katharina Jackel). I believe Margaretha to have at least 3 siblings: Jacob Klein (b. June 24, 1834), Peter Klein (b. May 2, 1839), and Katharina Klein (b. February 26, 1843).
