Notes for this person
Der kurfürstlich-sächsische Oberförster war eine bekannte Persönlichkeit nicht nur in Lauter, sondern im ganzen Erzgebirge. Er verwaltetedas Forstamt Lauter, das wegen seiner Tüchtigkeit vom Kurfürsten gern zur Jagd aufgesucht wurde. Rachhals war sehr wohlhabend. Er besaß eine Schenke in Aue an der ‚Bergfreiheit‘. Als er dafür von den Bergleuten einen Bierkeller in den Berg hauen ließ, stießen diese auf Zinnerz. Der vorgetriebene Stollen heißt heute noch der ‚Jägerstollen‘. An seiner Stelle steht das Haus der heutigen ‚Traditionsstätte Erzbergbau‘. Zum Kirchenbau 1628 stiftete Rachels eine Glocke, die seinen Namenszug trägt.
