Darilyn KATH

Darilyn Thiel, 77, Wahpeton, ND, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014, surrounded by her family at St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge, MN. The Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, July 29, 10:30 AM, at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Dale Lagodinski Celebrant. Visitation will be Monday, from 4 to 7 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Vigil, at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton. There will also be visitation Tuesday, one hour prior the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Mantador, ND. Arrangements are pending with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND. Darilyn Kath was born September 28, 1936 to Clarence and Gereta (Larson) Kath near Tenney, MN. She grew up on the family farm, graduated from Campbell High School and Moorhead Teacher's College. She taught grade school in Appleton, MN and Mooreton, ND. Darilyn married Wilbert J. Thiel at Saints Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Mantador, ND on June 21, 1958. To this union, 8 children were born. The family lived and farmed south of Mooreton, ND. In 1982, Wilbert passed away. Darilyn and the children continued to live on the farm until 1993, when she moved to Wahpeton. Darilyn was involved in church activities including teaching religious education, Altar Society member, prayer chain, and scheduling volunteers for lay ministry. She was active in Mooreton American Legion Auxiliary and was Mooreton Township clerk-treasurer from 1982 until 1993. She also worked as Postmaster Relief in Mooreton for many years. Darilyn enjoyed crocheting and helped create multiple prayer afghans as part of Heartmade Blessings. She was a leader of Beginning Experience for many years. Darilyn's other hobbies included gardening, traveling and bowling. She also loved to play cards. Spending time with family was important to Darilyn. She thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings on holidays and other events. She attended many of her grandchildren's music, dance, and sporting events. Darilyn is survived and deeply missed by her children and their families: Sharon (Terry) Terfehr, Breckenridge, MN - Elizabeth (Todd) Kuelbs; Brynlee, Hillsboro, ND and Joseph (fiancé Heidi Deaver); D (Donna) Thiel, rural Mooreton, ND - Sarah and Jessica; Janet (Todd) Weinmann, Fargo, ND - Kathryn and Erica; Dan (Anglea) Thiel, Coon Rapids, MN - Makayla, Alyssa, Kaitlyn, and Emily; Dale Thiel, Ortonville, MN; Dean Thiel, Wahpeton, ND; and Jason (Chantal) Thiel, Valley City, ND - Sophia and Sawyer; her siblings Elaine (Austin) Culp, Marlis (James) Vlasaty and Larry (Karen) Kath and her close personal friend Angeline Gilles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Thiel; infant son, Kevin; and her parents, Clarence and Gereta (Larson) Kath.
