Hendrik wurde von seinen Eltern nach Deutschland geschickt, um Jura zu studieren. Dort lernte er seine Cousine und spätere Ehefrau Ferdinande Louise Ernestine Scheller, Tochter von JohannAndreas Scheller und Wilhemine v. Schmid, kennen. Das Paarheiratete am 23.10.1810 in Wernigerode. Hendrik kehrte mit seiner Frau nach Südafrika zurück, wo er 1839 verstarb.
