Notes for this person

This Bucher family grew up on what was known as Bucher's Hill, at the border of Bucks and Northampton counties along the Delaware River. Today's maps show Bougher Hill Road at this location and the United States Geological Survey shows the name Bougher Hill for the summit. See a map of Bougher Hill at http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=40.6078&lon=-75.2122

Tax and military records in the 1780's indicate an Isaac, John, and Abraham Bucher existed in Williams Township at the time.

When this Jacob dies in 1809, his will is filed in Philadelphia County. It's possible he is another Jacob in our data in the 1790 Census in Philadelphia at: http://www.searchtrees.com/tree/11368.htm and note that Jacob has possible realtives living nearby named Isaac and James, given names used in the later in the Williams Township descendants.

We suspect the Jacob who died in 1809 is the son of the immigrant Jacob found at:

http://www.searchtrees.com/tree/4515.htm . A reason for that: this immigrant Jacob arrived 1735 at age 39 on the Mercury, with a son Jacob age 10 (born 1725), and a son Henry, 8. We believe this Henry is the one living in Noximixon Township which is near Bougher Hill: http://www.searchtrees.com/tree/4246.htm

Others part of this family but not yet connected for lack of proof:

Johann Bucher http://www.searchtrees.com/tree/4879.htm

Jacob Bucher http://www.searchtrees.com/tree/3212.htm

Maurice Bougher http://www.searchtrees.com/tree/13290.htm

Researchers should note that some later branches of this Bucher family are found using surname Bougher, Bugher; Bower or Bowers; and Bousher.

The 1820 Census for Williams Township lists a William born before 1776, old enough to be a son of Jacob (or even his brother) and too old to be the William grandson of Jacob through Abraham. Since Jacob's will mentions no son William, it's possible the 1820 William was categorized in the wrong age column and he is son of Abraham. We did not find an elder William born before 1776 in the 1790, 1800, or 1810 census in Williams.
