Wikipedia: "Er studierte an der Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg und Universität Straßburg. Gemeinsam mit seinem Bruder leitete er von 1881 bis 1921 den Lexikonverlag F. A. Brockhaus. 1893 wurde er durch eine Porträtenthüllung durch König Albert von Sachsen im Deutschen Buchhändlerhaus geehrt. Er war von 1890 bis 1910 Mitglied der IHK Leipzig und ab 1911 deren Ehrenmitglied. Brockhaus war von 1901 bis 1907 Erster Vorsteher und später Ehrenmitglied des Börsenvereins der Deutschen Buchhändler."
