Patterson Hospital. Death certificate shows she had post partum hemmorage. Contracted bronco pneumonia 3/8/35. It shows she was buried 3/17/35. This was on a Sunday. Her father was pastor of First Baptist Church in Carnegie. He had been called to a church in Roosevelt just prior to Roberta's birth. They had already moved and had to return to Carnegie for the funeral. An article in The Carnegie Herald newspaper, Carnegie, OK, dated Nov. 30, 1927, carries the following article: "McBRIDE-McGREGOR A wedding of much interest to friends here was solemnized at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 24, when Miss Keith McGregor, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. R. K. McGregor, became the bride of Don Olin (sic) McBride. The ceremony was performed at the home of the bride and her father officiated. After the ceremony, the young people accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Jas. McBride of Cowles, Neb., the groom's parents, left for Oklahoma City for a short trip. Miss Keith is a graduate of the Chickasha high school and a former student at the Oklahoma College for Women. She has made a wide circle of friends since coming here two years ago. For the past year she has been employed at the Ford agency as bookkeeper. Mr. McBride is an ambitious young man who has just recently located permanently in Carnegie. He is one of the proprietors of the Carnegie laundry. He was formerly connected with the S. W. L. & Power Co., as civil engineer. Mr. and Mrs. McBride returned here Saturday night where they are receiving the felicitations of their friends. The guests who were present at the weding besides the immediate family of the bride and groom were Mrs. J. D. Beggs, Oklahoma City; Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Coughman, Electra, Texas; Rev. and Mrs. Sam D. Taylor, Anadarko, and Mrs. J. A. Wright, Everett Wright and Miss Louise Vaughan." Another article from the same source, dated Wednesday, Mrach 20, 1935, carries the notice of Keith's death: "FUNERAL RITES FOR MRS. McBRIDE HELD SUNDAY AFTERNOON. Losing a courageous, up-hill struggle that had passed from one desperate crisis to another during the past two months, Mrs. Don McBride passed away at the Patterson hospital Friday monring. Funeral services were conducted from the First Baptist church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon by Rev. Garland C. Howard, pastor, and internment was made in the Carnegie cemetery under direction of the Pitcher Funeral Home. She had lived here for the past ten years. Keith McGregor was born at Cleburn, Texas, September 15, 1906. In 1916 her parents moved to Chickasha where she graduated from high school and where she was as student at the Oklahoma College for Women for two years. The family moved to Carnegie in 1915 when her father, Rev. R. K. McGregor, became pastor of the First Baptist Church, and where she has since made her home. She was married to Don O. McBride November 24, 1927, and to this union three children were born: Donald Keith, aged five; Carolyn, aged two and Roberta Sue, aged two months. Besides her husband and children she is survived by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. McGregor, and two sisters, Mrs. Joe Briscoe and Mrs. Gordon Saunders. She has been a member of the Baptist church since childhood." Then follows a long list of those who attended. The text below is from the book "Carnegie Oklahoma - the First 100 Years," published by Shoonmaker Publishers/Copies and More, Weatherford, OK 73096, 2003, page 293: Don and Keith McBride Donald Opie McBride was born in Cowles, Nebraska, June 1, 1903. After attending the University of Nebraska, he became a surveyor for South West Light and Power. He was a frequent visitor to the First Baptist Church and the parsonage where Rev. Royden (Roy) K. McGregor lived with his wife, Effie, and three daughters, Orvilla, Keith, and Annie Laurie. Don and Keith married November 24, 1927. He and Bill Noland ran the Carnegie Laundry on West Main. Don was active in the First Baptist Church and in the Masons. October 13,1929, Keith delivered Donald Keith McBride in the parsonage. May 18, 1932, Carolyn McBride was born. Roberta Sue McBride was born January 19, 1935. Keith died of complications on March 15, 1935. Rev. McGregor, his wife, Effie, Keith and Annie Laurie, are buried in the Carnegie Cemetery. Don and Mary Lou Patterson married late in 1935. The family moved to Oklahoma City, where Don worked for the State. Don was a dedicated worker and soon caught the eye of his bosses, and of Governor Robert S. Kerr. He held several management positions with the State before Governor Kerr left his position. " When Bob Kerr was elected Senator, Don became his special assistant. Following Senator Kerr's death, Johnson appointed him director in the Tennessee Valley Authority. Shortly after his retirement, Mary Lou died. Don died a few months later on June 25, 1978. They are buried in Knoxville, Tennessee. Donald Keith McBride served in the Army and Air Force. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. degree, followed by a M.A. degree from the University of North Carolina. He worked for the Social Security Administration as a manager, ending his career as an Assistant Bureau Director. He and his wife, Mary Kilgore McBride, organized and manage a printing company. He has two sons, Kuno Kiefer of Rosstal, Germany, and Donald, Jr. of Madison, Virginia. Carolyn McBride married Robert G. Brown, February 14, 1952. They had four children, Bradley, Brett, Donna, and Randy. They had successful businesses and retired as builders in Florida. Carolyn died April 6, 1999. Bob Brown died a few months later. Roberta Sue McBride graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University and did graduate work at the University of Maryland and Southwestern Baptist Seminary where she received the PhD. Degree. Her husband, William J. (Bill) Damon, whom she married June 20, 1958, also received his Doctorate at Southwestern. They were missionaries to Brazil. They have two sons, Mark Elliott Damon and Kenneth Paul Damon. Bill and Roberta are retired, but are still active. Roberta will soon publish A Voice beyond Weeping.
