Wilhelm wollte die mit seiner Ehe erworbenen Erbansprüche auf das Herzogtum Luxemburg sowie Böhmen und Ungarn durchsetzen und besetzte bereits1441 das Herzogtum. Damit geriet er in Konflikt mit Philipp dem Gutenvon Burgund, der ihn nach einigen Gefechten zum Abzug zwang.
