NOTE: DNB says he was the elder s. of Gilbert and grandson of WilliamdeMontfichet/ founder of the abbey of Stratford-Langton ofEssex.K-R (DDp. 398) echoes this in the report of Margaret de Clarewho m. Wm de Montfichet, d. 1137, and was mother of Gilbert.Sanders says that his heirs,or rather those of his son Richard,were Margery m. Hugh I de Bolbec, Aveline m. Wm de Forz (whoseline expired) and Philippa m. Hugh I de Playz. Thus eachsister' heirs ended with half the barony.
