Notes for this person
Ransom Moon and his wife, formerly Polly Barker, came from Indiana end were the immediate followers of (James) Nelson in the fall of 1852. He took a claim in the timber on a fork of the river, which has since been knwn as the Moon Branch, in Sec. 27. In Feb, 1853 he built a pole cabin 12 by 14 feet. A Little later they relocated near the center of the towship in Sec.22 and built a log cabin, in which they lived until 1866, when they built a frame house, where they lived until their death. This house still remains and is occupied. Soon after moving to theirnew home, their little three year old boy died and was buried in thesouth part of their land. This being the first death and burial in the vicinity, Mr. Moon gave a plot of ground, which contained this little grave, to the township, which has always been known as the MoonCemetery. Their daughter, Elizabeth, later known as Mrs. Adam Busch, had the distinction of being the first white child born in this Twp. Mrs. Moon passed away in 1891 and Mr. Moon in 1899.
