Stahlhut, 73, a resident of Sumner for the past 27 years, was called to his reward Sunday evening about 9 o'clock at the Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo. He enjoyed good health untill 1932, In 1935 he suffered a paralytic stroke which affected hisleft side, causing many internal ailments and suffering. On Oct. 25. he fell from his chair, fracturing his left hip. He was taken to the hospital in Waterloo but other complications set in and the end came Sunday night. Mr. Stahlhut was well known in this vicinity. He was a successful farmer and business man, and accumulated considerable wealth. As a citizen he was highly respected. He belonged to the founders of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Sumner and contributed richly to the Lord's houshold. In him the congregation has lost a staunch supporter. He brought his children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and attended church services regularly as parted suffered much during the last seven years and the last days and hours especially were full of pain. The end came quietly andpeacefully. Henry Carl William Stahlhut was born June 1, 1866, at Bueckenburg, in Schauenburg-Lipp, Germany. His father was Gottlieb Stahlhut and his mother, Caroling nee Paul. One June 4, 1866, he was baptized and his grandfather, Carl Stahlhut was his sponsor. At the age of three he came with his parents to America, at first making there home in Cook County , Ill., but after a few years they moved to a farm in Sumner township, Bremer County, Iowa. Here he received his religious training and was confirmed on Mar. 21, 1880 at the Spring Fountain Church On Apr. 2, 1888, he was united in marriage to Mary Weihe and moved to his own farm in Dayton township. The union was blessed with 10 children., of whom three preceded the father into eternity. After several years of farming, Mr. Stahlhut moved to Waverly and them to Nashua, later returning to his farm were he remained until moving to Sumner in 1912. Here his wife died on Dec. 5, 1931, which severed 43 years of happy marriage. On July 23,1934, he entered a second marriage with Frederika Witter of Reimer, Minn. There remain to mourn his loss his wife, Frederika; two sons and five daughters; Henry Stahlhut of Waterloo, Mrs. Emma Behrens, Mrs. Minnie Gaede, Mrs. Matida Sell and Mrs. Salinda Rundle of Sumner, Albert Stahlhut of Waterloo and Mrs. Mertie Meyer of Sumner and their families; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister Mrs. Henry Weil of Tripoli, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Rev. W.G. Nagler officiating.
