ELMER WAS VERY HEALTHY ALL HIS LIFE TILL THE END. DUE TO AGE CONNECTEDINFIRMITIES, HE LIVED HIS LAST FIVE YEARS IN THE REGENCY NURSING CENTREIN NILES, ILL WHERE MINNIE ALSO WAS. FROM ABOUT AGE 95 HE SUFFEREDSOMEWHAT FROM CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE BUT LASIX KEPT THE FLUID BUILD UPIN CONTROL. IN DECEMBER 1995, HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH INOPERABLE COLONCANCER AND DIED ON JANUARY 26, 1996 WITHOUT TOO MUCH PAIN. HE WAS JUSTPAST 103 1/2 YEARS OLD AT DEATH. HIS MIND WAS CLEAR TILL ABOUT AGE 98AFTER WHICH HE SOMETIMES WAS FORGETFUL OR SLIGHTLY CONFUSED. HEFIGURED HIS OWN INCOME TAX FORMS UNTIL AGE 96 WHEN IT BECAME HARD TOBALANCE A CHECK BOOK, ETC. BUD TOOK OVER THE PAPERWORK THEN.
