John (Wiebler) was born at Ft. Madison, Iowa. As a young man, he left Ft. Madison and went to Columbus, Nebraska where he surveyed and laid out a route from Columbus to Lawrence and carried mail by horse back between those two points for several years. He entered the hardware business in Lawrence. The store was burned down in 1902. He and Henry Gilsdorf were partners in this hardware business. He married Mary Brockman. They had 9 children: Frank, died at birth and Agnes died at 3 months of whooping cough, William was a railway mail clerk. John (Slats) was owner and editor of the Lawrence Locomotive. He purchased the Locomotive from Daniel Livingston in 1928 and continued as publisher until his death in 1941. Clara married Lery Oberlin. They had no children. Lynda, was co-founder and Sec. Treas. of Postal Life and Casualty Insurance Co. of Kansas City, MO. Elsie married Edward Schendt. They had one daughter, Marjorie. Norbert worked for a construction company at Hanford, Wash. for some time, also published the Lawrence Locomotive for a time. Edna, married Harlow Hanson. They had 7 children: John, Richard, Philip, Mary, Ruth, Linda Jo, William. Anna, married William Atwood. He was a barber and later sheriff of Hall County. They had 5 children: Archie, Frank, William, Walter and Vera. Henry married Mary Bietner of St. Stephens. They had 3 children: Joseph, Marie and Frank. Mary died and Henry married Lena Schulte and moved to Ft. Madison, Iowa. He was a Federal prison guard for many years and also later built and ran a laundry. Henry and Lena had 3 children: Albert, Martin and Raymond. Lena married Guido Gilsdorf and had 8 children: Edward, George, Alfred, Elvira, Clarence, Ernest, Herbert and Blanche. Kathryn married Matt Friend. They had 9 children.
