Ernst Frederick Brockmann was a shoemaker. Fire destroyed the home, so the mother, Dorthea emigrated with her five children to the United States. Intending to land in New York, they were of the ocean six weeks in 1842 and landed in New Orleans. Her children were Christian, Ernst, Theodore, Sophia and Anna. While waiting for the boat to take them by river to Cincinnati, Theodore (9 years old) disappeared. They notified the authorities and searched for three days but were unsuccessful in finding him and had to board the boat. They never heard of him again. They lived in Cincinnati a few years. The moved to Brookville, Indiana by flat boat. Christian stayed in Cincinnati and founded the C E Brockmann China Store. Sophia married an old man named Capt Buckingham, who was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. She died in the 1913 flood in Brookville. She refused to leave her home. Her name is on a plaque in Brookville. Anna married a Mr Waddell. Ernst built a log house in Huntersville, Indiana and made that a permanent residence. He followed his trade as a shoemaker. In September, 1858, he married Mary Louise Meyerrose (born February 23, 1841). They were the parents of eight children:

Henry Ernst, Louis Christian, William, Mary, Anna, Sophia, Henrietta and Edward Frederick Brockman who married Olga Henrietta Schrader June 22, 1910.
