Troy (Reserve Twp.) passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Pristine Pines Assisted Living in Wexford. "M.A." was born September 6, 1927 in Pittsburgh and was the daughter of the late Henry and Lucy Simon. M.A. was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Nicholas J. Mares, Jr. in 2002. M.A. is survived by her sons, Nicholas, III (Connie) and Mark and by her daughter, (who shared the same birthday with her Mom, September 6) Lynn Armstrong (Chris). She is also the grandmother of Nicholas V. Mares (Laura), Christopher Armstrong, Mark, Luke, Apryl and Kasey Mares. M.A. is the great-grandmother of Regan Schell and Nicholas William Mares. She was very close to her daughter-in-law Connie Mares. M.A. worked at several jobs in her life: a car hop at the Eat-in-Park, an insurance company, Robert Hall clothing, Giant Eagle and retired from Shaler Area School District where she worked as a Teachers Aide. M.A. was a life member of the Mt. Troy V.F.C. Ladies Auxiliary and belonged to the Christian Mothers at Most Holy Name Church on Troy Hill. She particularly enjoyed working with the Special Needs Kids Saturday morning at Most Holy Name. The family will receive friends at the HUGHES FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1501 Lowrie Street, Troy Hill from 2pm to 8pm on Monday. Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11am. in Most Holy Name Church, Troy Hill. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Mt. Troy Road. Please, in lieu of flowers, the family will acknowledge donations made to St. Anthony's Chapel Fund at 1700 Harpster Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212-4393.
