He had been in failing health for three years and for the past week his condition was serious. Mr Smith was employed as a master mechanic at the Forge Works for about twenty years, retiring four years ago. Before coming to Titusville 24 years ago, he was engaged in the drilling contracting business in the Oklahoma oil fields for 20 years. Although he was not a member, Mr Smith attended St Paul's Reformed church. He possessed a jovial nature and was exceptionally fond of children. The neighborhood children often came to his home and generally were treated. Mr Smith was a son of Edward and Emma Smith and was born at Randolph, NY. In young manhood he married Miss Elizabeth M Nonneman (sic) [Nonnenman] of Titusville, who survives, with one son, Dale Smith of Camp Livingston, La. One sister, Miss Anna Smith of Chicago, also survives. Services in his memory will be conducted at 2:30 pm Monday from the home. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
