Aus Find A Grave: Birth: Feb. 5, 1939 Grand Island Hall County Nebraska, USADeath: Dec. 11, 2015 Brownsville Cameron County Texas, USA "Charles “Charlie” Sheffield, 76, of Sherman Reservoir, Loup City, formerly of Grand Island, died on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, in Texas. To honor Charlie’s wishes, cremation was chosen. The celebration of life service and remembrance party will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Platt Deutsche in Grand Island. Casual dress is requested. Daniel Naranjo will officiate. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. Mr. Sheffield was born on Feb. 5, 1939, in Grand Island to Charles and Margaret (Shriner) Sheffield. Survivors of the immediate family includes his wife, Lois; a son, Steven Sheffield; a stepson, Lonnie Dickson; and a stepson and daughter-in-law, Monte and Jaci Dickson, all of Lincoln; a sister and brother-in-law, Christy and Dennis Edwards, and a sister-in-law and husband, Barbra and Jerry Brand, all of Grand Island. Additional family includes stepgrandchildren, Cody, Brady, Jake and Gabbie Dickson of Lincoln; several nieces and nephews; and additional in-laws, Bill and Joyce Ryan, Kathy and Ted Stava of Grand Island, Dolores Call of Merna, Janet Judy and Al Haines of Neligh. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry Sheffield. Charles was raised in Grand Island. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High and later from Kearney State College in Kearney. He worked for his father at Sheffield Tree Service for 35 years. He officiated high school and college football and basketball games for 32 years and retired after teaching in the Grand Island Public Schools for 38 years. Mr. Sheffield was president of the Grand Island Officials Association for over 20 years and presented many referee clinics throughout the state. He officiated 12 high school football championships, including nine Class A games. He also worked many state basketball tournament games and championships. Charles was also highly recognized for developing the elementary physical education program in the Grand Island Public Schools. He presented many ideas and activities at local, state and national programs, where he was also honored as an outstanding physical educator. Mr. Sheffield’s favorite times were those spent fishing with his wife, Lois. Both caught many Master Angler Award fish at Sherman Reservoir. A memorial fund will be established in memory of Charlie."
