Muchow April 2, 1914 - June 4, 2013 Marvin Louis Muchow, 99 of Grand Island died Tuesday, June 04, 2013, at Wedgewood Care Center, Grand Island. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. Todd Philipsen officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation hours will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church concluding with a wake service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, for masses or Stuhr Museum. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Marvin Louis Muchow was born April 2, 1914 in Blue Hill, Nebraska the son of Frederick William & Mary (Mueller) Muchow. Marvin's mother died when he was just five years old. He grew up in Blue Hill, Otis, Colorado and Grand Island. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and Grand Island Public Schools. While living in Grand Island, Marvin and his sister, Mildred (Sheffield) made their home with Mr. & Mrs. Scheffel, of the Scheffel Monument Company. A couple by the name of "Wiseman": Otto Becker and family. Otto was the Trinity Lutheran School Professor. After this period of time Marvin and his sister, Mildred (Sheffield) lived with their father who was able to provide a home for them. He was united in marriage to Therese A. Bermel, April 7, 1947 at St. Mary's Cathedral, Grand Island. Marvin & Therese enjoyed traveling the United States. Their travels took them to all 50 states, and all Provinces of Canada. They also visited Mexico, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein. Marvin worked as a print setter for McGowan/Halstead Printing. He served in the U.S. Army, from June 27, 1941, until receiving his honorable discharge on October 16, 1945. Marvin served with the Army, 7th Division. He served in the Aleutian Islands, (ATTU Alaska), eastern Mandates, (Quageline), southern Philippines, Leyte Island, Ryukus Island (Japan), Marshall Islands, Okinawa and Hawaii. After his discharge he was employed by Bartenbach Poster Advertising, posting billboards, and Geer-Mauer-Melkus Construction Company as equipment operator and farmed from 1953 until 1960. He also was employed by the Department of Interior as a Survey Technician with the Bureau of Reclamation and later retired. Following his retirement he worked at Skagway in the Automotive Department.
