Charles Wright "Chuck" Thierfelder Obituary Veröffentlicht 03 Aug 2016 von Susan Herman Charles Wright Thierfelder, 91, passed away July 29, 2016 after a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 AM at Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church. Charles was born on February 3, 1925, the son of Alleida Noll Thierfelder and Oscar Augustus Thierfelder. Charles received his degree in electrical engineering at the University of Oklahoma in 1946. He was a participant in the US Navy's V12 program. Following his naval service, he joined RCA as a project development engineer in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Lancaster plant was designed and built by the U.S. Navy to build and manufacture all of the radar cathode tubes and power tubes used in World War II. He received his Master's degree in physics at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His first job in the Lancaster plant was to design a theater projection TV picture tube on September 11, 1946. He obtained the first of several patents for the theater projection tube. He was the chief engineer on RCA's Color TV design team. His career took him from Lancaster, Pennsylvania to Marion, Indiana, back to Lancaster, Pennsylvania and finally to Morristown, New Jersey. He helped establish a plant in Poland. His travels took him to Japan, Russia, Poland, France, England and Brazil. Charles was recalled into the Navy in September, 1951. He served at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He returned to RCA in 1953. He retired from RCA in 1996. He served as president of the board for the Urban League, and the Lancaster Day Care Center. He was very active in the First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Embroider's Guild of America. He designed and embroidered a piece that won a national award at the Embroider's Guild of America national seminar in Dearborn, Michigan. Charles was an avid flower and vegetable gardener. He loved his poodles. Charles was known for his sense of humor, his laughter and the twinkle in his eye. Charles was preceded in death by his sisters, Vivian Wyly, Mildred Korte, and grandson Brian Wagner. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Virginia Davis Thierfelder of almost 70 years; his daughter, Karen, grandson Nathan Wagner and wife Cindy; great-grandchildren, Emma Grace and Natalie; Daughter, Lisa and husband, John Weathington; grandchildren Jason Weathington and Eric Nolan-Weathington and wife, Donna Nolen-Weathington; and great-grandchildren, Caper and Iain Nolen-Weathington; niece and nephews Peggy Wells, Ken and Carol Harrison, Kermit and Patricia Harrison, Judy Frankin, Charlie and Jo Korte, and Sharon and Fred Korte, Jr. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
